On the inside with Rosario Carbajal, Wealth Inspired
This is one for the ladies!
Can you imagine asking permission every time you need to buy or invest in something?
As much as it feels great to have a partner in life, in today’s world, maintaining a level of financial independence is more important than ever before.
In the recent Workplace Gender Equality Agency report, four million workers and more than 12,000 employers in Australia and in 2016 claimed that men out-earn women by $27,000 in the same roles. [ Report Source ]
Accordingly, the differences in remuneration were even higher at the top end of the occupation scale. These have been related to severe negative impacts on women’s expected career earnings given that women climbing up the managerial ladder at the same pace as men should reportedly expect to earn $600K less in a ten-year period.
The continued gaps in pay for men and women manager emphasises just how biased the culture and behaviour among organisations are up to this day.
Likewise, women not only suffer against pay differences but they also need to deal with interrupted work patterns (as required or by choice) because of their caregiver role in their families.
Female financial planning expert shares more
According to Sydney financial planning expert Rosario Carbajal from Wealth Inspired, gender pay gaps lead to significant earnings shortfalls for women across their careers and have on flow effect on their future wealth and retirement planning with:
- Approximately 46.6% lower superannuation balances as compared to men to support retirement
- Limited capacity to save or create personal wealth during their working life
- Potential or less involvement in financial decision making in the household
Rosario also adds: “At a time when separation and divorce are at historically high rates, young women (i.e. as soon as they start working) need to be educated and empowered to financially bridge the wealth creation gap and women already in the 40s/50s need to be supported to take control of their finances and wealth creation before retirement.”
Rosario emphasises how important independence is to the success of a wealth creation plan for women.
