Your story. How did it all start?
After working in the finance industry since 2000, I completed the highly regarded AMP Horizons Academy training for Financial Planners in 2008. Following on from this, I started my own business in 2010.
We travel around all Sydney to help clients with strategies to protect their family, lifestyle, business, and assets in the event of anything changing. We also help them plan their future wealth and retirement.
What are your key values when working with clients?
Our clients are all valued individuals. As such, we spend time sitting down with people and getting to know them personally. We ask them about their current situation, where they’d like to be and their time-frame to get there. Then we develop a personalised strategy to help them achieve their goals.
We can look at clearing their debt, increasing their savings and investment, planning their retirement and protecting them along the way.
The most rewarding part of what you do?
We know that we’re not only helping our clients, but we’re helping the whole family. This makes our clients feel happy and safe knowing that they have a plan in place to provide and protect their families now and into the future.

I have an ability to uncover extra opportunities for wealth creation, ones that my clients may never have considered on their own.
Client success story?
I was referred to a young struggling family to help them arrange “only” income protection insurance. At that time they didn’t think they could afford to save, buy a car or investment property. By the time we’d finished working together, they had improved cash flow, a new car, purchased their first property through a self-managed super fund and had a clear plan for retirement. It was beyond anything they could have ever imagined.
What makes a good financial planner?
A good financial planner is one who takes the time to get to know you and your situation. They ask lots of questions and conduct research into different options to put you into a better place. They will then recommend a strategy to put you into a stronger financial position and implement the plan you have agreed to.
Expect an initial meeting with a planner to take around 1.5 – 2 hours. They will need to gather information to ensure their recommendation is personalised to you and your family.
As a result of the Banking Royal Commission report, more consumers feel concerned with choosing an adviser. What do you think the impact will be?
My view is that it presents a huge opportunity for financial planners and advisers to focus on service: it needs to be outstanding and backed by exceptional professionalism. And at the same time, consumers should do their homework on an advisor to feel comfortable they will act ethically and in their best interest.
What advice can you share with one looking to grow their wealth and planning a retirement?
As our lives are dynamic and constantly changing, financial plans should be regularly reviewed to ensure they are current and still reflect your goals. Also, as you reach each goal, it is important to celebrate and redefine your next steps. Find a good planner who will work with you on an ongoing basis to monitor and adjust your plans as needed.
