Sydney’s Upper North Shore is popular

According to a Domain Liveable Sydney 2016 study, a number of key Upper North Shore suburbs ranked extremely high.

To arrive at the top five (5) suburbs in the Upper North Shore, about sixteen (16) indicators were used by the researchers and consultants to come up with the results.

Indicators like green space and access to transport are an acceptable yardstick for measuring liveability while other indicators, like harbour views, ferry access, and proximity to the beach are unique to Sydney.

Hence, the list of indicators used in Sydney’s Upper North Shore includes access to employment, good train/light rail network, bus (ease of accessing bus stops), ferry, proximity to cultural activities, main road congestion, education, shopping premises.

Others include open space for recreational activities, natural reserves, and parks, tree cover, topographic variation, cafes and restaurants, crime rate, telecommunications, views, and access to the beach.

Here are the five Upper North Shore suburbs that ranked top of the list for liveability on Sydney’s overall table of suburbs:

Waitara

This suburb is located 23 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of Hornsby Shire. It ranked 61 using the above indicators on the overall liveability table. Facilities like train network, shops, telecommunications coverage, cafes, and restaurants are found to be world-class in this suburb while other indicators returned normal Sydney’s average result.

Killara

This is the second most liveable suburb on the Upper North Shore and is home to famed architect Harry Seidler. On the table, Killara is ranked 84 and has excellent ratings for it’s telecommunications coverage, culture, and tree cover, access to train/rail, low crime rate, and topographic variation.

Although local bus stops are quite spaced out, every other indicator had an average score in this suburb.

Lindfield

Third on this table is this suburb Lindfield with a total rank of 97. It’s strength in rating lies on the excellent telecommunications coverage available and also ahead of other suburbs in the area of proximity to employment hubs, tree cover, topographic variation, access to train and a low crime rate.

However, bus stops and congested main roads are areas that require attention.

Asquith

This suburb is ranked 104 on the table and can be found west of the M1 and Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. Asquith has a relatively low congested main road, good schools, and access to rail and train.

The crime rate in this suburb is however high as well as poor tree covering, topographic variation, and lack of buses and bus stop.

Roseville

Employment hubs, tree covers, buses, and low crime rate, received very high rates in this suburb except for congested main road and lack of open space which received low scores. It will interest you to know that education and cultural activities here are just on the average and therefore in the upper north shore, this suburb is ranked 108 on the table.

Sydney is a top choice destination for most tourist and people migrating to Australia. So if you are looking for a region or suburbs with a high livability rating, then Sydney’s Upper North Shore could well be the place.
