A dodgy plumber will be vague when quoting
Watch out for plumbers that are not able to give you a fixed price for a job or tells you he/she is “unclear” as to what’s needed. They are likely to hit you up for a cost far beyond your expectations.
Even if it’s a plumbing job by the hour, a good plumber should be able to estimate the minimum and maximum hours needed to complete the job so that you have a reasonable idea of the costs expected.

Watch out for a plumber that over-inflates the cost of parts
It is best to have a general idea as to the cost of parts so that you can be confident that a plumber is not overcharging you.
Some dodgy plumbers may double or triple the costs and still tell you they are “actual” costs. Always ask for an itemised quote of labour and parts and don’t be afraid to ask a plumber if they charge a margin on parts.

Sometimes you need to just go with your gut about a plumber that you meet. Maybe you didn’t feel comfortable having him/her in your home, or perhaps having no website, them being new in business or not showing up in a professional vehicle makes you feel “it just isn’t right.”
