What will your future home be like?
The future is always full of possibilities and enhancements, especially where home technology is concerned. Ever wonder what cool gadgets the future homes will have?
Here are some insights on where the market is going and how homes can soon be changing.
With the internet and tech giants turning their focus on home technology, it won’t be long before your wardrobe is communicating with you amongst other things.
According to the white paper The Internet of Things: Evolution or Revolution? part one, around 40 billion to 50 billion devices are projected to be under the “smart” category by 2020. The white paper was released by AIG and the Consumer Electronics Association.
Nonetheless, what people can expect from future smart homes is still up to debate although more analysts are convinced that the smart technology revolution should have the most impact.
“The house may know who is in the room at any given time and set the lighting, entertainment or even the coffee machine and heating/cooling to the preferred settings,” said David Clerk, founder and managing director of General Innovation Australia. It will not be hard to realize that soon, everything can be accessed or controlled at the touch of a fingertip including your front door.
Editor of Domain, Jennifer Duke also talks about this in her recent article.
Here are the top predictions from the white paper and analysts regarding homes of the future:
Smart wardrobes
Smart home appliances are already on the market. Soon you may be able to find self-adjusting thermostats and a home control system that can communicate with your wardrobe.
Termite sensors
Australia has 350 known species of termites. One in four homes is bugged with such problem. It makes sense that soon, companies may find a way to incorporate termite sensors into homes and alert them if pest control is already in order.
Energy usage monitoring
We all want to save on energy and costs without compromising comfort. Expect homes of the future to be equipped with energy usage monitors. This should help tell you when consumption is enough. It also makes sense since more buildings are going green.
The white paper even predicted that homes may be able to market themselves in the future. “The concept is that a prospective home buyer who passes a house for sale will receive a message on their smartphone from the iBeacon giving instant details on the house,” according to the report. Apple’s iBeacon technology and For Sale signboards are already in tow – they can be essential catalysts in changing the real estate selling game.
