The right North Shore removal company is a must
Moving to a new home in and around the Sydney’s North Shore can be a very stressful experience, and many people choose to hire a local North Shore removalist to try to make things a little easier and eliminate some of the stress. It goes without saying, hiring a shonky home removalist that does not take care of your furniture and personal belongings can cause even more stress.
Below are some questions to ask potential removalists in the North Shore to ensure that you find the best home removals company for the job.
1. How accurate is your estimate, and how long will the move take?
Anyone can come to your house, have a quick look at your things and give you a rough estimate based on what you have that needs to be moved and the distance between your existing home and your new one. However, an inexperienced removalist might give you an inaccurate quote, which means you could end up paying a lot extra on moving day. Additionally, the ability to quote an accurate timeframe takes skill and experience.
2. Do you charge hourly, and does your quote include GST and/or hidden fees and surcharges?
Many North Shore removalists charge a low hourly fee that might seem tempting. However, they may sting you later with hidden surcharges such as costs for time spent travelling, adding GST, and charging additional fees for heavy items like pianos, and for things like stairs. An hourly rate may however make sense with a reputable North Shore home removalists that is very transparent about their process and fees.
3. Do you have permanent, experienced staff? Can you guarantee good quality workmanship?
Unfortunately, many removalist companies do not actually keep a full time staff on hand. Instead, many hire labourers on a part time basis, who often don’t have any experience packing and safely moving furniture and other items. Other removalist’s may be lead dealers. Which means they contract the job to another removalist for profit. While this may be ok, it is worth knowing about before you hire the company.
4. Are my things insured? If so for what and how much, and can you provide a copy of your insurance policy?
If a removalist squirms, lies, or tries to mislead you when you ask about their insurance policies, there is a good chance they do not have any insurance. A trustworthy, local removalist will happily explain their insurance and provide proof when asked.
5. Can you give me at least 3 phone numbers of customers form the North Shore area that you have moved in the last week or so for references?
This may be a rather bold question but is probably more important than any of the others. If you have any doubts about the integrity of the home removals company, ask this question. An honest removalist will have no problem giving you phone numbers of previous customers for referrals. However, remember that it is important to choose people from recent weeks as an untrustworthy removalist could come up with some fake testimonials.
