Apartments are taking over houses in Sydney
Sydney is seeing a surge in interest in apartment living. According to recent reports, apartment living is happening faster in the city than any other region. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), the square kilometre population grid (based on the last census’ data) reveals that Sydney ranks as the most densely populated city.
“Sydney has more areas of very high density – there are 21 square kilometres with more than 8000 people per square kilometre – compared to Melbourne’s solitary one square kilometre above this population density,” said director of geography at ABS, Alister Nairn (via Domain).
“Our cities are maturing,” added Domain Group senior economist Andrew Wilson.
“They’re spreading and becoming more dense and we’re looking for better quality, amenity and typically closer in, rather than further out,” he says of the shift towards apartments.
What makes apartments extremely popular is that they are more affordable than houses. Not to mention the amenities and lifestyle opportunities such living offers.
“There are recreational facilities on most new apartment developments now and the very nature of them is that there’s already high levels of infrastructure and residential amenity there,” added Wilson.
There is a growing trend of placing apartments within suburbs. Developers typically benefit from the existing infrastructure while offering the best possible living options for clients. People are buying into more apartments under such setting because it is not only affordable but some are close to education hubs, cities, healthcare facilities and other important places.
People are benefitting from the entire underlying infrastructure already present in the neighbourhood while also getting the opportunity to be in a new dwelling place. The convenience and everything that comes with it, appeals to those looking for practicality without sacrificing comfort.
Apartments are also no longer just viable options in the city in nearby areas. For those looking for a more serene environment but with similar benefits, it would be good to know that the suburbs are also seeing a fair share of rising apartments already.
